Two years have passed since Bllnr.com first compiled The World’s Most Expensive Hotel Suites. Now, even deeper pockets are required to book one of these ultra-exclusive suites.
The world’s previous number-one hotel suite, the Royal Penthouse Suite at Geneva’s Hotel President Wilson, has lost its crown to New York ‘super suite’ The Grand Penthouse at The Mark. Including taxes, this eye-watering suite costs the best part of US$100,000 for a single night.

Currency fluctuations and price hikes over the last two years has meant that some suites are now worth a lot more, or a lot less, than they were. In this year’s ranking we are including taxes in the room rates, seeing as those nightly charges alone could pay for a 10-day vacation package for most mere mortals.
Grand Penthouse at The Mark
Location: New York City, US

This expansive hotel space is the world’s new number one, with a room rate of US$75,000 and additional city and state taxes of nearly 15 percent. At the end of last year, décor guru Grange added the final touches to the grand penthouse suite which is spread over the top two floors of the building. Below the lofty ceilings there are five bedrooms with custom-made furniture, a library lounge, two wet bars and a dining room that could easily fit a party of 24. A private elevator takes you up to a rooftop terrace with breathtaking views of the city, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park. Chef Jean-Georges, who operates the hotel’s signature restaurant, can prepare a special romantic menu served on the terrace. There’s even in-suite hair styling by Frédéric Fekkai Salon and round-the-clock suit tailoring from Bergdorf Goodman for penthouse guests.

Royal Penthouse Suite at the Hotel President Wilson

With the current exchange rate, this Swiss suite has fallen 12 percent compared to a couple of years ago. The penthouse continues to draw rich and famous occupants, with big-name guests reportedly including Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Rihanna. The suite has panoramic views over Lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps and 12 palatial bedrooms complete with 12 marble bathrooms, a Steinway grand piano and a display of strikingly expensive artworks.

Ty Warner Penthouse, Four Seasons Hotel

Soaring more than 200m above the city, on the top floor of Manhattan’s highest hotel, the Ty Warner penthouse used to be the most expensive hotel suite in the US. If you want to stay a night, be ready to fork out 10 percent more compared to two years ago. Named after the billionaire owner of the Four Seasons Hotels in New York, this suite took seven years and a staggering US$50 million to build. And it shows. The vision of legendary architects IM Pei and Peter Marino, every inch of this suite is beautifully conceived — from the 18th century Japanese silk pillows to the extensive library filled with hundreds of volumes on art and culture. Penthouse dwellers will enjoy exclusive chauffeured Rolls-Royce Phantom service, personal trainer and full spa treatments. Unlimited caviar and Champagne are also de rigeur.

Delana Hilltop Estate, Laucala Island Resort

There has been a slight increase in rent for the owner’s residence, or now known as Delana Hilltop Estate at this Fijian private island retreat. Co-founder of Red Bull Dietrich Mateschitz bought the island from the Forbes media heirs in 2003. He stays at the spectacular owner’s hilltop residence when he chooses to visit. The estate is perched up high in the hills and is the crown of luxury living à la Laucala, with its own panoramic swimming pool, two guest residences and elite services such as a private cook, a chauffeur and a private nanny. Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez has been part of the Hyatt hotels since 2013 but dates back as early as 1929, when it was opened by Emmanuel Michele Martinez, son of Italian Baron Giovanni Martinez. The classic Art Deco hotel on the Boulevard de la Croisette now has one of the largest penthouse suites in Europe. Set on the seventh floor of the Martinez, the fabulous Penthouse Suite has increased its capacity to four king-size bedrooms, two living rooms and two dining rooms. A private 290-square-metre terrace with a Jacuzzi offers fabulous views of the Bay of Cannes.

Shangri-La Suite, Shangri-La Bosphorus

The two-bedroom Shangri-La Suite has been subject to volatile currency fluctuations in recent months, and is relatively cheaper than it was two years ago. It is the only room on the sixth-floor penthouse of Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, overlooking the romantic Bosphorus Strait. The suite has three separate private terraces with most of the city’s landmarks and its famous skyline silhouettes visible. The bed linen has a thread count of 800 while the marble-clad bathroom has a heated floor and a 19-inch television embedded in the mirror. Toiletries are by Bulgari.

Presidential Suite, Mandarin Oriental
Location: Pudong, Shanghai, China

Due to currency fluctuations in the yuan over the last year, the Presidential Suite at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong has fallen in terms of price per night, although it remains unchanged in its local currency. There is a 15 percent service charge, which, altogether at nearly US$30,000, makes it China’s most expensive suite by far. The luxurious room on the hotel’s 25th floor has an impressive private wine cellar, fully equipped kitchen, a 3m wine bar, a private meeting room and a dining room. The bathroom alone is larger than most Hong Kong apartments at 50 square metres and is stocked with luxury bathroom amenities by Acqua di Parma. Plush terry bathrobes by Frette or silk kimonos are on offer to guests. There are even two private roof gardens with incredible views across the city, if the pollution isn’t too heavy.

Royal Suite, Hôtel Plaza Athénée

The Royal Suite at the Dorchester Collection’s Plaza Athénée is the largest hotel room in Paris. The interiors were designed by Marie-José Pommereau, co-founder of the French version of Architectural Digest and known for her work decorating some of France’s finest homes. The result: a classic decor tilted towards the 18th century Régence period, with high-tech amenities, including concealed televisions behind mirrors, a Jacuzzi and a steam room. The suite has four en-suite bedrooms, three living rooms and a separate kitchen.

The Connaught Hotel’s remodelled two-bedroom penthouse has been designed to feel like the home of an urbane private collector. Designed by the legendary David Collins, who tragically passed away last year shortly after completing the project, The Apartment is an appropriately stunning legacy. The reception room is filled with an array of specially commissioned art and furniture, carefully picked antiques and limited-edition books. The master-bedroom suite has a four-poster bed with delicate silk draping, while cabinetry is upholstered in lilac and navy leather. Two landscaped decked terraces designed by Tom Stuart-Smith overlook the chimneys and rooftops of Mayfair, while a Connaught butler is on hand to arrange a private dinner party with menus designed by Michelin-starred Hélène Darroze. The Connaught will even arrange for Lanvin silk dresses, Balenciaga suede jackets and Christian Louboutin satin heels to be placed in the suite prior to your arrival.
